Recently SoundBoard Consulting Group held a two day Leadership Strategic Planning Retreat attended by approximately 25 business owners and leaders. Jay Wolf of SoundBoard explained outright that studies have shown that the top companies – those that have outperformed benchmarks like the Dow five years running — always have one thing in common - a positive organizational climate. Who is responsible for this? It is the leader who sets the ideal organizational climate — the temperature in which everyone has the potential, tools and support to excel.
While it is theoretically possible that many people have the capacity to lead, becoming a leader is a little more complicated than simply wanting it. Above all, you want your organization to be one in which leadership can thrive. In order to create a culture of leadership, several other important factors such as leadership style, emotional intelligence and motivation all need to be considered along with the organizational climate.
